Rockley is set off the main road and is another charming 19th century historic village with many beautiful buildings still remaining. Because it is away from the main road, time has stood still and with few changes over time it captures rural life around the turn of the century.
It is hardly surprising that it has been listed by the National Trust as a Historic Village.
The early history of the village was in the mining of gold and copper but then it began producing food for other mining areas.
One of the few Australian towns to have a picturesque village green with parklands near the weir on Peppers Creek.
It is delightful and shady with a number of barbecues available and the pools in the creek safe for swimming.
There is lots to do with bushwalking, fossicking, great trout fishing in the local streams and at nearby Chifley Dam.
Australian Prime Minister, Ben Chifley, was president of the Abercrombie Shire Council from 1937-40 and regularly travelled from his home in Bathurst to attend the council's fortnightly meetings in Rockley.
