Housed in the 1876 Public School building which underwent major refurbishment, is one of the most spectacular fossil and mineral collections in the world -
the Australian Museum's Somerville Collection -
now permanently on show at the
Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum situated in the heart of Bathurst.
A major star of the collection and the exhibition is a 10 metre long Tyrannosaurus Rex, the only one in
the country, plus several dinosaur eggs, a 40 million-year old lizard caught in amber and rare minerals.  All part of this collection which has been given to the people of NSW by Warren Somerville.
Close to 2000 fossil and mineral specimens are displayed in two main exhibitions - the MasterFoods Fossil Gallery and the Minerals Gallery.

The Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, which houses the Somerville Collection, complements
the growing number of first-class regional cultural facilities such as the Age of Fishes Museum in nearby
Canowindra.

Hector Lupp (1908-1989) - A Son of Bathurst
An exhibition of photographs and memorabilia celebrating the 100th birthday of this well known musician and sportsman of Bathurst. Hector was Bathurst’s Honorary Carillonist 1935-45, was in local theatrical productions from 1919-88 and was an exhibitor at the Bathurst A.H. & P. Show for sixty years. During WWII he played in both the band and orchestra of the RAAF.
